Bavarian Public Transport Award

Bavarian Public Transport Award for Personal Excellence Granted to Heino Seeger

This year’s award for personal excellence in public transport was granted to Heino Seeger, the managing director of the BOB. The award was handed over by Bavarian minister of state Otto Wiesheu at the occasion of the Bavarian Congress on Metropolitan Railway Systems. A press report of the ministry states that during last years the BOB has become a reference for other transportation companies. Today the BOB carries every day about 13 000 passengers - more than the double of what originally was forecasted. Heino Seeger, who in 1999 has taken over responsibility for the BOB under difficult circumstances has played a significant role in this tremendous success. His dedication was honoured by the free state of Bavaria with the award for personal excellence. Seeger is the second laureate after the passenger organization Pro Bahn.

The Bavarian Award for Excellence in Public Transport is granted every two years. It honours activities or solutions which have led to advances in the quality of Bavarian metropolitan rail transport. Laureates are selected by a jury that is composed of representatives of the Bavarian Ministry of Transport, the Bavarian Rail Authority, the Chamber of Commerce and of associations of railway and bus companies. Laureates receive an especially designed award, which symbolizes the dynamism of Bavarian public transport.

Other laureates this year were the Gaeubodenbahn from Lower Bavaria, the Nuremberg Public Transport Network and the Vogtlandbahn. “We encourage attractive innovations in Bavarian public transport. They shall be at the same time reference and incentive for other Bavarian regions”, declared Otto Wiesheu, Bavarian Minister of Transport.
