BOB acknowledged for environmental effectiveness

On September 23, 2004, at the occasion of the trade show Innotrans at Berlin, the Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH was acknowledged for its environmental effectiveness. The picture shows Heino Seeger, Managing Director of the BOB, receiving the award. To his left Margarete Wolf, Parliamentary Secretary of State, to his right Dirk Flege, head of the association Allianz pro Schiene.

According to the conclusions of the Allianz pro Schiene the BOB has excelled in reducing air pollution, noise exposure and energy consumption. As representative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment Margarete Wolf has handed over the awards. 
In total five railway companies were acknowledged. Winners in the individual categories were:

- Commuter railway service with diesel power traction unit: Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH

- Commuter railway service with electric power traction unit: S-Bahn Berlin GmbH

- Long distance passenger transport: DB Fernverkehr AG

- Regional cargo transport: Verkehrsbetriebe Peine-Salzgitter GmbH

- Long distance cargo transport: Railion Deutschland AG

Railway companies were judged by a jury of 13 under presidency of Margarete Wolf. Decisions were made based on a detailed catalogue of criteria like noise exposure, energy consumption and pollution. These were again evaluated in areas such as operation, procurement, retrofitting and innovations.

Allianz pro Schiene is an association consisting of 17 organisations for the promotion of environmental friendly and safe railway services. The association is endorsed by railway companies and their suppliers.
