Coupling and sharing
One of the particularities of the BOB is the socalled “coupling and sharing” of the Integral trains which enables the interchange free service of different branch lines within the network. And this functions like follows: The train leaves Munich Main Station as a triple traction unit. At Holzkirchen Station this one will be split off into one unit continuing to Bayrischzell and a double traction unit continuing to Schaftlach Station. There the double traction unit will be split off again into one train in the direction to Tegernsee and another train in the direction to Lenggries. On their way back to Munich the train will be reassembled the opposite way. This specific mode of operation is enabled by the automatic central buffer coupling which allows for a rapid coupling and separation of Integral trains.
For you as a passenger this means that – if you are travelling from Munich in the direction to the Oberland – you should take particular care to get seated in the unit bound to your final destination. To give you an example: If you wish to travel from Munich to Bad Toelz you have to get on board on the traction unit bound to Lenggries. Displays above the entry doors are indicating that final destination. In addition train locators on the platforms at Munich Main Station, Donnersbergerbruecke, Harras, Siemenswerke and Solln help you to identify the sequence of traction units of each individual train. And of course our train conductors are pleased to help you at any time.
In standard operation mode the first unit is the one directing to Bayrischzell, the second one is bound to Lenggries and the third one terminates at Tegernsee. Due to operative reasons this sequence can may vary. Therefore please always pay attention to the displays above the entry doors while entering.
