Bayerische Oberlandbahn

About us

History and Present Time

The Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) issued the tender for the 120 km rail network from Munich to Bayrischzell/Tegernsee/Lenggries in order to promote competition in the rail sector in the Free state of Bavaria. One of the bidders was the consortium of DEG-Verkehrs GmbH and the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn AG. Due to their modern approach and innovative concept they were awarded the contract and subsequently founded the Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH (BOB) on March 31, 1998. The BOB started operation the same year on November 29. From the beginning the BOB carried approximately 12.000 passengers every day and runs 1,65 million train kilometres per year. Meanwhile the consortium has changed and today Veolia Verkehr is the 100% shareholder of the BOB.

Two sister company of the BOB also has its base in Bavaria: The Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH (BRB) and the Bayerische CargoBahn GmbH (BCB), which is a 100% daughter company of Veolia Cargo Logistics and started to operate rail cargo services in February 2002.

In the Depot Lenggries the Integral trains are serviced and maintained, fuelled and cleaned. Around the clock, in a 3-shift system 40 employees service the rolling stock.

The BOB Philosophy

Being a service provider we try our best to fulfill all our customers’ needs and requirements – as good as possible. In order to meet the specific transportation requirements of commuters the BOB stops on weekdays at the station “Siemenswerke”, while weekends the stop is moved to “Solln”, where traffic then is bigger. During peak traffic additional trains supplement the hourly service for commuters. Specific trains stop at Mittersendling for commuters and at Otterfing for students and pupils. In autumn 2001 the BOB was declared “selected network”, an honour which includes financial and logistical support from the state of Bavaria -aimed at consolidating and improving our service even further.
